Withdrawal from school, Expulsion, Re-admission

Withdrawal from school

  • Definition: A student withdraws from school if he or she voluntarily decides to leave school with the consent of parent(s).
  • When to apply: Any time (Except for grading periods: from mid-June to mid-July and from mid-December to mid-January)
  • How to apply: You need to visit the office of Academic Support (2nd floor, Hyungnam Engineering Building) with your parent to complete the application form. If your parent cannot come to school, you must arrange a phone call between your parent and a school official for verification.
  • Items to prepare: your own seal and one of your parents' seal

Expulsion

  • Definition: A student is expelled from school if he or she fails to register within the registration period, if he or she fails to be reinstated by a deadline after taking a leave of absence, or if he or she has received academic probation for the third time.
  • Reference point for the decision: The final day of each semester (end of February and end of August). For Installment plan participants, each deadline for each installment period is the reference point.
  • Notification of expulsion: The school posts the notice of expulsion on the school website and mails proof of delivery letters to the students in advance before taking the process so that responsible students may avoid being expelled by taking appropriate measures.

Re-admission

  • Definition: A student can be re-admitted to school after withdrawing from school or after being expelled from school. In this case, the student is to be registered for the next semester after the last successful semester.
  • When to apply: Two to twelve months before your expected re-admission.
    • If you want to be re-admitted in the Spring semester and if your final successful semester was the Fall semester, you may file the application between March and December before your expected re-admission year.
    • If you want to be re-admitted in the Fall semester and if your final successful semester was the Spring semester, you may file the application between September and June.
  • How to apply: By phone to Academic Support in the periods described above.
  • In case you are re-admitted after the application period, you must visit Registrar in person first and take the remaining steps.

Related University Regulations

  • Article 26 (Re-admission)
    • ① Re-admission is granted during a designated period only if there is a vacancy in the student quota unless particular laws dictate otherwise.
    • ② Re-admission is granted up to twice. In case a student gives up a re-admission that he or she has been granted, it is also included in the restriction.
    • ③ Despite the provisions in 1 and 2, if a student has been expelled from school for disciplinary reasons, the president retains sole discretion over whether to grant the re-admission.
    • ④ The details regarding re-admission are specified in the administrative instructions.
  • Article 29 (Expulsion and Withdrawal from school)
    • ① If a student has one of the following conditions, he or she is to be expelled from school.
      1. Has not registered within the designated period
      2. Has not been reinstated after taking a leave of absence
      3. Has been simultaneously registered in another school
      4. Has been given disciplinary measures
      5. Has received the 3rd academic probation (during the undergraduate studies)
    • ② In case a student is to be expelled for the first reason given in (1) above, the school is obliged in advance to send a proof-of-delivery letter to the student and post the notice of expulsion on the school newspaper and website.
    • ③ A student who decides to withdraw from school must make a request for permission to withdraw to the President. Grades obtained in the semester in which the request is made will be void.
